ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN SPORTS

NEW DELHI: Sports have various risks according to the sport’s branches as well as it has positive effects on human health. No matter what  their branch is, each athlete will somehow be injured in his/her sports career at each level. Sports physiotherapists are involved in prevention and management of injury resulting from sport and exercise participation at all ages and levels of ability. Sports physiotherapists gatherings give exhortation ahead safe participation, pushing an animated lifestyle on assistance know people enhance. Furthermore, it administers their caliber of existence. 

Sports science and sports medicine are terms used by individuals from numerous disciplines, but for a physiotherapist main parameters of sports medicine is mechanism of injury, early consultation, accurate diagnosis, and safe plan for return to activity, injury prevention strategy for effective therapy of the injured athlete. There must also be provision for cardio vascular training, maintenance or recovery of strength, the developmental of functional progression, and implementation of objective testing.

The success of an individual athlete or collective team is not only measured in wins and losses, but also in how effective the sports medicine team has been in preventing and effectively treating the injuries that invariably occur. The care of the athlete is a team effort in which members of the sports medicine team support each other for the benefit of the athlete and the team

The advances in sports medicine and science, particularly over the past decade, however, have opened a wider spectrum of treatment choices requiring a higher level of skill mix provided by a range of physical therapies disciplines.

Sports physiotherapist also play great role in participating training and practice, demonstrating way of exercise also have to look all practice and training of athletes. Accurate diagnosis and understanding of the accompanying underlying pathophysiologic processes. Proper physiotherapy of an athlete under sport’s Physio also give a feedback regarding their biomechanics, also guidance to improve training with correct posture and to maintain control and balance. This all guidance improve performance and also decrease chances of injury.

Many findings suggest that further expansion of the present surveillance systems would be a positive advancement in order to more accurately account for injuries and symptoms associated with overuse problems that pre-exist and often manifest as ‘injuries’

The extensive role of the sports physiotherapist beyond the treatment of injury to a broader role by also providing assistance with maintenance and recovery. The expansion of the current injury surveillance systems and an appropriate EMR(electronic medical record) system are required to provide a more detailed classification system on diagnosis, grade of injury and the extent to which performance or training is impaired as a result of injury.
